Giants on Earth, Chapter 2: History and Folklore

Of course I can’t start any history lesson on Giants without mentioning the Bible, you know the book that all good Christians are supposed to follow and believe 100%? Yes, the Bible and even the Quran have numerous passages about Giants and “Men of God”. The most famous biblical Giant was of course Goliath, a soldier of the Philistine army. I am not going to mention much more about the Biblical giants but there are many, many passages referencing them and supposedly many different clans of Giants were active in the Middle East during the days of the Bible. I should also mention that the Book of Mormon goes quite into detail about a race of giants that fled the Middle East and landed in the New World, again, I don’t want to make this a religious discussion but Giants are prevalent in most religions in one way or another.  Here are just a few examples of the bible mentioning Giants, take special note of how they are described as having six fingers and six toes on each hand, this interesting tidbit will come up again in the next Chapter, I promise. I should also mention that in pre-historic through medieval times the average height of a man was around 5’0-5’5” while women ranged between 4’8-5’0 (again these are only estimates) so even a person who was 6’0-6’5” would seem “gigantic” to some people. This fact will play into Chapter 4. Anyhow:

Nephilim

Genesis 6:4

The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men, and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown.

Genesis 6:1-4

When the human race began to increase, with more and more daughters being born, the sons of God noticed that the daughters of men were beautiful. They looked them over and picked out wives for themselves.

Then God said, “I’m not going to breathe life into men and women endlessly. Eventually they’re going to die; from now on they can expect a life span of 120 years.”

This was back in the days when there were giants in the land. The giants came from the union of the sons of God and the daughters of men. These were the mighty men of ancient lore, the famous ones.

2 Samuel 21:20

There was war at Gath again, where there was a man of great stature who had six fingers on each hand and six toes on each foot, twenty-four in number; and he also had been born to the giant.

     It isn’t just biblical refences that describe Giants in ancient times though as with most religious texts most ancient civilizations had their own Giant Myths and fables.  The famous First Century Jewish historian Josephus mentions Giants in a few of his writings calling them fallen angels who impregnated human women. They were described as cruel and violent and ruled over men as Gods.  Another famous historian of the classical era, Pliny, mentions Giants, specifically an Arabian giant named Gabara who was 9’9” tall.  Giants have played a very large (pun intended) role in ancient mythology and many ancient civilizations have made mention of them on various occasions, the most famous ancient giants may be the Summerian Anunnaki, whom were said to be a race of beings sent from the heavens. Many researchers, myself included believe that the Anunnaki may have been an alien race who colonized Earth to mine its precious minerals. The theory postulates that when they arrived they spliced their own DNA with that of either Neanderthal or Homo Eructus to create us, Homo Sapiens to use as a work force around 200,000 years ago. I believe we then either defeated our Giant overlords or they simply left about 40,000 years ago which just so happens to coincide with the Great Awakening that humans experienced. It was after the Giants left that humans were free to do what they pleased. They scattered throughout the Middle East and beyond but I am digressing from my History of Giants and shall save that whole theory for another post. As I was saying these tales of Giants coming from the sky show up in a number of ancient texts from the Sumerian accounts of the Anunnaki , the Indian Vedas (tales of aliens, spaceship battles, nuclear war and giants) the Egyptians, the Hopi Indians and many, many more.

     Before the written word everything was passed down from generation to generation by storytellers, special members of the tribe tasked with remembering and retelling the tales of the people who came before them, most likely the Shaman or tribal Elder. These stories were passed on from generation to generation, tens of thousands of years of history quietly retold over a campfire every night. I could only imagine the stories they told. Those stories although probably embellished for entertainment purposes were all based on fact and had happened thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of years ago and two factors stood out to me the most when I was researching ancient myths, almost every ancient civilization had a Flood Myth (which a post for another time, believe me) and almost all of them had Giant myths as well. Stories that date back to Gilgamesh and beyond, thousands of years before the bible Let’s not forget that Greek Mythology is full of Giants, Titans, and other massive creatures who were said to have ruled the world before man was man.  With all of that in mind I am going to shift my attentions to the Giants of North America and Chapter three will focus on specific skeletal finds in the US to back up the Giants were real and mining copper out of the UP theory I am postulating. I shall end this chapter with an interesting piece of trivia that ties in very nicely with my upcoming Chapter.

The Iroquois, the Osage, the Tuscaroras, the Hurons, the Omahas, and many other North American Indians all speak of giant men who once lived and roamed in the territories of their forefathers. Some tales say they are fair skinned red headed men (possibly Vikings? Again another post for another day.) others say they were dark haired with raven black hair, double rows of teeth and six fingers on each hand and toe! Yes, there it is the six digits and the double row of teeth, they are prevalent when discussing Giants especially the ones found in North America. Fossilized footprints with six toes, skeletal remains including enormous skulls with double rows of teeth have all been found and documented in the US and around the world and my next installment we are going to look at some of these individual findings in depth, I can’t wait, I hope you are as excited as I am.
